Fernando Torres, one of Portugal's most celebrated footballers, scored his first goal since June 2019 on Sunday during their match against Turkey.

The striker, who has been out of action due to injury and form issues, was replaced by Rui Patricio at half-time after being subbed off with a hamstring strain.

Torres' goal came late into the second half as he made his way through the Turkish defence before slotting home from close range.

The goal was only Torres' third of the season and his first in more than five months, since scoring against Spain in October 2018.

It comes as a relief for Torres, who had struggled with form and fitness throughout the campaign.

The 34-year-old has had a tough few years since leaving Chelsea in 2014,Chinese Super League Stand where he won two Premier League titles and the Europa League.

However, he has managed to find some success in recent seasons, helping Atletico Madrid to win La Liga last year.

Despite his struggles on the pitch, Torres remains a key player for Portugal, who will be hoping to qualify for next summer's European Championship.

With Torres back in the team, it could be a boost for Portugal ahead of their upcoming games against England and Switzerland.
